For effective and reliable deployment, digital credentials need to meet stringent demands for security and counterfeiting resilience. On a global scale, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) developed specifications for the creation of trustworthy, interoperable digital credentials.
Visible Digital Seal (VDS) elements are cryptographically encoded 2D barcodes that can be used digitally or printed on physical documents. They enable on- and offline verification of who issued a document and whether its data were altered. VDS Bio by kinegram.digital adds extra security and practicality to the VDS concept by enhancing it with biometric information: facial landmarks of the document or token holder.
The ICAO Data Structure for Barcodes (IDB) takes digital tokens to the next level. IDB is a definitive global standard for convenient, secure, and interoperable digital identity credentials. As advanced cryptographically encoded 2D barcodes, IDB elements offer the highest level of digital trust. They provide levels of security and sophistication that are comparable to those of physical identity credentials.
VDS and IDB provide a practical path toward convenient, secure and interoperable digital identity credentials, with a slightly different setup and suitability for different use cases. Both 2D barcode solutions are extremely easy to issue and verify, and do not require any specialized issuance hardware or processes.
