Identity documents and vehicle license plates are regularly checked in police operations, as well as in border controls or mobile inspections – often using different apps or devices, and with substantial manual effort. Importantly, the rapid and reliable capture of identity and vehicle data is essential for police and public order officers, authorities, and law enforcement agencies.

Specifically, the solution had to meet the following requirements:

  • Fast and error-free capture of data from identity documents, 2D barcodes, and vehicle license plates
  • Compliance with international security standards and EU data protection regulations (GDPR) through local data processing
  • Seamless integration into an existing app solution with minimal adjustments and future extensibility

The MOBILE SCAN SDK automatically, and within fractions of a second, recognizes identity documents, 2D barcodes, and vehicle license plates, and transfers the respective data directly to the main app. Supported data and document formats include:

  • MRZ data from identity documents

    The SDK reads and processes Machine Readable Zones (MRZ) of passports and ID cards with highest precision and according to international standards such as ICAO-9303, ISO 18013, ISO 22376:2023. Additionally, it also reads Swiss driver’s licenses.

  • Vehicle license plates

    European car, truck, and motorbike license plates as per EU Regulation (EC) No 2411/98, as well as Swiss and British license plates, are captured and processed in real time.

  • 2D Barcodes and VDS

    The SDK supports PDF417, Visible Digital Seals (VDS), QR Codes, DataMatrix, and other 2D barcodes, meeting international security standards (ISO 18013, ISO 22376:2023).

The MOBILE SCAN SDK complies with data privacy regulations and operates very securely. Captured and processed data is exclusively returned to the main app only, without being stored. In addition, the solution works fully offline, making it ideal for mobile use and security-critical applications.
